Yesterday was the last worship practice at our house. For the past 5 months, since we moved the Southside service to morning, the worship team has been using our house for practise on Monday. The guys will moved in drums, keyboard, bass, guitar and some amps to the house at about 6pm and we will start the practice around 6.30pm, normally finishing at about 8.30pm.
We even passed them the house keys and alarm code so that they can use the place when we were back home in Malaysia for a month. Our neighbours were a bit worried during that time because they see Pacific Islanders (locals here have some kind prejudice against the PI) moving stuff in and out of the house and we were not around. So, we made sure that our neighbours know of the practice.
The noise level was also a concern for us, but somehow, (with much control by Joe on the drum), the beautiful sound of worship doesn't travel out to the neighbours. Being able to divide the room by closing the door between the living and the dining hall gives the team a great place for vocal and band practise before coming together at the later end of the session.
We are going to missed having the guys around on Monday evening. A lot of people think that we are making a big family sacrifice for allowing the worship practice to intrude our lives on every Monday evening. However, when we were blessed by God to have this house, we knew that we will use it in any measure we can to serve the purpose of God. Like Ps. Tim always said, it’s a reasonable sacrifice. Besides, what better way to fill the home than with God’s praises.
