Gold Coast
In keeping our family tradition of traveling together as a family, we flew off to Gold Coast with mom and bro after spending 2 days in Auckland. And we all conclude that it was more hype than anything else.
Yes, Gold Coast has its own charms but I guess it's the blazing summer that keeps the fun out of us. All in all, only Ethan and myself went to surfers paradise beach once (just before sunset). Yes, the sand was powdery and the water was great, but with the sun scorching down on you at 36 - 38C, it was really too much for us Malaysian... considering that there isn't really any shade you can hide on.
Nevertheless, we did some of the rituals of going to Sea world, Movie world and even the famous Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo. The places were all great but after a while, the heat got the better of us, and mostly we end up tired and not really enthusiastic about anything... I guess posing for photos with the different characters was the most smile that we put on. I think my brother made it his mission to visit as many fitness first gyms as possible to make his trip worthwhile.
Food and shopping was ok-ler... Nothing to shout about and the food was either too expensive or couldn't cater for all our different preference. The only highlight for our day trip to Brisbane was meeting with a bunch of ex-ECFers as nearly everything was not in operation on a Sunday. Thankfully, we also drove to Toowoomba, a 2 1/2 hours drive from Gold Coast to meet up with Lavinia for dinner. Good to see her family adapting to the Aussie lifestyle.
Hmm... after this trip, it will be June before mom and brother come to Auckland again. And this time, it's going to be another adventure as a SHE-Chong will be added to the family.
