Firm, Constant & Steadfast

Kellie and I were watching ER recently and in one of the scene, the doctor told the pregnant lady that she needed a causarean for her delivery. She said, "the baby's heartbeat is dropping and the umbilical cord is choking him. If oxygen doesn't get to him, he may suffer neurological damate". I told my wife that is exactly the same statement utter by her gynae during Ethan's delivery.

It's been 2 years since that anxious midnight when I was outside the operating theater while the doctors were performing an emergency operation on Kellie. Moments later, the paediatrician came out and told me that Ethan was blue and they had to pump oxygen to him. He was to be further monitored for fear of neurological damage. Well, in the ER episode, the baby did suffer neurological damage and we began to realise how blessed we are because we just celebrated Ethan's 2nd birthday last weekend.

Today, Ethan is a bubbly boy and brings joy to everyone he meets with his energy and friendliness. We thank God for gifting us with such a wonderful child. Yes, there are times when he's a handful and like every parents, headache and frustration do get to us, but never once, do we forget how much a blessing he is to us and to the many that he comes in contact with.

His name represents firm, constant and steadfastness. In the bible, Ethan is a worship leader. Our own Ethan is showing all those signs with his consistent stubbornness ;) but it's also those qualities that constantly remind us that we should have steadfast faith. He will always request for a praise song to dance to (His current favourite is 'Take it all' by Hillsongs) and will never snug into bed before a prayer is said with him.

We invited some friends over for a little celebration and true to Malaysian style, there were lots of food. Interestingly, all the Asian foods were snapped up leaving behind a big bowl of salad and nachos. I guess even when these chaps have been in this 'kwai-lo' country for so long, Malaysian food will never leave their blood.

Ps. John puts a smile on all the kids' face with his talented skill of shape shifting with balloons and the whole house was literally turn into a little nursery with toys spreading all over the floor. The adults took time to catch up and meet new friends and we did the tradition of birthday song and cake cutting.

We missed the family and friends back home that are not able to celebrate with us but we know that Ethan will always be remembered in their hearts. We thank all that has brought gift and pray that they have been blessed too. Do check out the party's photo.
